Here is a photo of the yoga studio where I have been attending classes. I may very well be in this photo as it is entitled “New Year’s Resolutions” (on the studio’s Facebook wall) and I attended my first class New Year’s Day. See the big mirror. I hates it.
Last night’s class was harder than previous classes, even though we did the same series of poses in the same order. I think perhaps I was doing them correctly last night, but not the previous two classes. One pose compresses the ascending colon and I like to think it is cleansing all of the self-destructive Crohn’s Disease auto-immunity out of my body. Who knows. It is a simple pose — lay flat, back on the floor, and bend one knee to the chest; hold it with interlocking hands and continue pushing the knee into the chest while the knee pushes against the hands.
Kristi, the owner of the studio and my teacher, is in the front of the class in this photo. She is tiny, elegant, and firm but caring in her direction. I feel like an elephant around her.
I remember the Big Mirror from my adult ballet class.
Intimidating, but necessary.
I’m so proud of you for doing yoga and sharing your experiences.
Thanks, sis. I just focus on a spot on the floor.
